REFRESH YOUR TEAM THIS SPRING WITH A FOCUS ON ENGAGEMENT

Posted by Jake Mandel on Apr, 01, 2018

Spring is about new beginnings, and it’s a great time to take a fresh look at employee engagement.

Teams are made up of a range of personalities, skill levels, cultural backgrounds, and internal loyalties. Successful teams are built on trust and allow each member’s abilities to come forward. Team building activities put a spin on working together and can give everyone a fresh perspective.

To recharge and and help revitalize your team, here are 5 ideas to get your team more engaged and, well, blooming this spring.

1 - Change Your Meeting Style

Meetings, the bane of the professional’s existence, but often important and needed. How can we edit this format to create a better work environment?

Studies have found that having multiple small targeted meetings have a better team engagement rate than one elongated meeting. Along with that, having one theme, which is known prior to attending the meeting, allows it to be structured and effective. A short agenda for what you want to cover in the meeting is important to keep things on track, and everyone focused and generating great ideas.

Today, it’s not uncommon for teams to hold a standing meeting. These are as a whole significantly shorter, more efficient and may bring the group to attention.

2 - Everyone Gets a Voice

Often in workplaces certain employees can feel their voice is not heard enough, this happens all the time in larger organizations, but can also happen in smaller teams too.

As a team leader it is important to hear out and value your team’s ideas. Setting aside 5-10 minutes weekly or bi-weekly to have an informal chat with each member in your team can pay incredible dividends in the long run.

3 - Tend the Garden

Every garden needs some water and light to grow, and every employee on your team could use some help in reaching their potential. Provide team members with feedback when they’ve done a great job on a project or account, and work with them constructively when they’ve made a mistake.

Actively showing interest and feedback helps your employees grow, and could even push them towards a goal or achievement; from a professional qualifications, to an increase in sales by the end of the quarter.

4 - Take a Leap of Faith

Trust is instrumental in building a team, and giving your team members the ability to make more important decisions and have an impact on the running of the business, can help them come out of their shell and develop.

Encouraging your team to learn new skills and use their initiative is important, and you want to make it clear that failure is okay, to truly unlock the potential of your team.

5 Collaborate in a Fun Activity

Often to create a fresh outlook for a team you need to remove them from the familiar environment and create new opportunities for your team to bond, and appreciate each other’s unique skill sets.

Hosting a team building event is a perfect way to breathe new life into your team. There are a variety of different types of events to choose from to create memorable and lasting engagement.
